The uniqueness with a louvered Pergola® is that the metal louvered blades are opened or closed following a natural cycle of the sun. This enables you the greater flexibility in light penetration or sun blocking. When the blades are opened in the opposite direction to the natural cycle of the sun, the blades block the sun as per below diagram.

There are many reasons we call these Pergola® systems “Bioclimatic”. The obvious reasons we call them bioclimatic is because these systems reduce energy, the consumption of heating and air conditioning , control the temperature on the patio. The not so obvious reasons are they meet modern bioclimatic architecture parameters which require respect for the environment, reduced pollution and maintenance, and the creation of improved overall comfort both indoors and outdoors. The RASO Rolling Zipper Shades can be used for sun and insect control or used with clear vinyl windows for light weather protection. Simply roll down the screen with the touch of the remote button and built in motor and the zipper system will do the rest. The fabric runs inside vertical zippered guide tracks by means of gravity. When the shade is retracted the fabric is stored in the gutter or header at the top out of view. A specially designed horizontal weighted hem bar keeps the fabric taut when the fabric is lowered. These optional shades are ideal for use in conjunction with the OPERA & NOMO Pratic Pergola® Systems to create a side screen enclosure. The recommended mesh fabric is Soltis 86, and if vinyl fabric with windows are desired, use the same Soltis Ferrari 602 or 502 Vinyl used on our Pergola® Fabric Awnings.

The RASO Rolling Zipper Shades have a special zipper and PVC insert in the tracks. The zipper is attached to the side of the fabric, and slid into a PVC extrusions inserted inside the track the entire height of the screen. As the shade is lowered and raised, the zipper then rides up and down in the PVC insert, which retains the fabric within the track. See illustration below.

Our optional LED lighting are a wonderful addition to your Louvered Pergola® structure. They are simple to operate with a remote control. The perimeter strip LED lighting can be set to change colors automatically, or set to display one color. Your Louvered Pergola system really is not complete without this wonderful feature. The “perimeter” LED light strips are also neatly integrated into the aluminum gutter system or structure for a modern and clean look. The spot lights are integrated into the individual metal louvers. You can integrate both LED lighting systems onto your Pergola® or just one. What you choose will depend on your preference or needs. The LED spot lights can be used in evening when the louvers are closed, while the perimeter multi colored strips can be used whether the louvers are closed or open, as they are fixed to the perimeter gutter system. For restaurants, the lighting can be used in evenings to illuminate the interior for creating a mood and for safety lighting when the patio closes for the night. If you wish to create your own “Martini Bar” feel and atmosphere, you can do so with the “Blue” Led strips. The Opera and Vision automatically protects you from sun, rain, wind, and some limited snow accumulation. This unique system lets you modulate the light directly or indirectly depending on the sun’s direction, the desired light intensity, with blade rotation from 0° to 140° with infinite intermediate positions.

The Opera and Vision become even more elegant with the optional remote controlled RGB LED’s with white included, and spot lights built into the blades. For treated side protection and privacy, optional RASO vertical screens can be added to the structures. Or, side glass sliding doors can also be added.
